Scene Analysis

This scene in the movie, Oceans 8, wrapped up the theme of the movie perfectly. This scene is not the ending but it is when the groups' main job shown throughout the movie is completed (robbing the MET).

It starts off with a celebration showing them all in the room together, signifying what the women could accomplish all together. Then the camera shifts to show close-ups of both those who know what's coming next and the others who appear confused - not knowing the amount of jewelry actually stolen.

When everyone starts to be informed of the complete plan, a voice over starts. I really liked how the shot changed from their current conversation to scenes of the movie that the audience had already seen. This strategy pieces together the film, answering any questions the audience or the other members of the 8 had while creating an alternate storyline that no one saw coming!

When we saw the jewelry being stolen from the exhibit the camera work created extra suspense. The angles were constantly switching making it very interesting to watch. The spotlights on the exhibit and the red protective lasers also added to the suspenseful qualities.

When people were walking the camera followed them or stayed in one place and swiveled to follow their movement, this pieced together the travel of everyone involved nicely.

When it went back to the present moment, the voiceover now matched her voice and the panning shot of the jewelry tied up the robbery.

When Daphne was told her cut her jaw dropped and it was the same shot as before when she was asking about the cut, this was a very good bookend.
